Things are always busy behind the scenes at 2-4 Market Place, and we’re pleased to be able to share a few updates on recent changes that have been taking place.
What’s been happening on site…
We’ve now officially taken over the site, which is a huge and exciting milestone for the project. What does that really mean? Well, rather than the site being under the care of the contractors, it’s now under the official care of the Trust.
Electricity infrastructure has now been installed throughout the building, with the team continuing to work with Northern Powergrid to finalise the main supply connection. We’re still awaiting dates for when the electricity supply connections will be completed to be confirmed, but we’re continuing to work through this and will share more on that front as soon as we can.
There’s also been some really positive movement on the retail units and No.2 and No.4. The team are now in conversations with a number of potential tenants, with a decision expected very soon on at least one of the units. It’s exciting to think new businesses may be calling this space home soon!
Anniversary Tours Recap…
On Saturday 19th September, we hosted our anniversary tours as part of the Heritage Open Days Festival 2026. We welcomed more than 40 members of the community through the doors of 2-4 Market Place over four tours, which took place throughout the day, giving visitors the chance to step inside. Each tour, led by the team, gave visitors the chance to see how far the restoration project has come along and get a closer look at the work that is currently taking place across the site. It was a great opportunity to share the latest chapter of what has been happening at 2-4, so a huge thank you to all those who joined us.
A major funding milestone…
We’re delighted to share that The National Lottery Heritage Fund has agreed to provide the additional funding needed to help complete the building work at 2-4.
This is the news we’ve been hoping for and a huge step forward for the project. It means we can keep moving ahead with the restoration, which will only help move us closer to completing the ongoing works to bring these wonderful buildings back into use.
There will still be plenty to do once the main building work is finished… particularly the fit-out, decorating and all those important finishing touches, but we’re excited to move into this next stage.
