It’s all go inside 2-4 Market Place right now, and the progress on site is really starting to show.
With lots of the big ‘behind the scenes’ work moving forward, the building is edging closer and closer to feeling like the finished thing… not just a work in progress.
One of the next key milestones is happening in the Mechanical and Electrical rooms, with the floor having just been poured. Now that it is in place, the team will be cracking on with stud walls to form the rooms, ready for the next wave of kit to go in. That includes essentials like the electrical distribution panels, along with the water meters and equipment such as booster pumps – all the practical bits and bobs that will keep everything running smoothly.
On the ground floor, there’s been great progress with the facilities. The WC is now installed and plastered, and the next step is boxing in the pipework… another sign that the internal spaces are moving towards the ‘finishing touches’ phase.
Plenty is happening outside, too. One of the shopfronts is being fitted this week, one of those changes that will make a big difference straight away!
Inside the building, access is continuing to take shape as well. The flight of stairs up to the first floor is already in place, and the second level of stairs for the core is due to go in very soon – another big step forward in connecting the building as work continues.
The flats are starting to feel more and more complete too, with doors being fitted along with skirting and architrave. And a standout detail: the replica plaster coving in the first floor flat is now installed and blends in perfectly, keeping that heritage character intact while everything else comes together around it.
There are some important updates on utilities as well. Anglian Water are due to complete the water connections to No.2 and No.4 this month, with all work contained safely within the compound, and BT should follow shortly afterwards!
Finally, the team are still waiting for confirmation on the disconnection of the old supply for the top floor flat, which is expected later this month.
As always, there’s a lot of moving parts coming together at once – but week-by-week, the transformation at 2-4 Market Place is becoming more visible.
