It’s been another active month on site at 2-4 Market Place, with steady progress across key areas as we continue to shape the future of this exciting community-led project in the heart of Caistor.
Inside the Community Space, a major milestone was reached in May with all steels now in place and the new level floor installed. The previously boarded-up windows to the rear have been opened up and are now fully glazed, transforming the feel and outlook of the space. This has brought a new sense of openness to the area that will eventually host community events and activities.
Over at The Granary, we’re pleased to report that the roof is now fully weatherproof – a big step forward in protecting the building and making it ready for the next phase of work. Although we were disappointed not to be successful in our recent Expression of Interest to Historic England for the Heritage at Risk fund, we understand the competition was exceptionally high, with many organisations also missing out. The board is now reviewing the project timetable and ongoing fundraising strategy to keep momentum going.
Elsewhere across the site:
- Internal walls have now been built to define each of the individual shop spaces – more on this here if you’d like to register your interest in the spaces or find out more.
- The new core (linking circulation area and access) is coming on well.
- Preparations continue for the second share offering, with a formal launch expected later this month.
- Marketing for the commercial spaces is also set to begin soon via an agent – watch this space for more information soon.
- Finishes are being finalised for the holiday-let units, including kitchen and bathroom specifications.
- Utilities are on track to be connected before the end of the year.
Trust shareholders have been invited to the upcoming AGM, and the Activity Programme is officially underway, behind the scenes, to ensure we are pulling together a calendar of events to celebrate and explore the rich history, culture, and future use of the site.
Join us and make your mark on 2-4:
Volunteers’ Week was a reminder of the power of community, and during this year’s campaign, we called on you for your support to help make the vision we have for 2-4 Market Place a reality. Whether you’re a local resident, a student, a retiree, or a business looking to give back, your time and talents can make a meaningful difference. From hands-on tasks like painting and joinery to sharing your skills through workshops or supporting events, there’s a role for everyone. No prior experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. Training is available for certain roles, and businesses can participate through Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV). Visit our Volunteering page to register your interest today.
Stay tuned for more updates as we head into summer and some busy milestone months for the project!
