We’re excited to share some fantastic updates this month from behind the facade of 2–4 Marketplace, as we continue to breathe new life into these historic buildings that sit at the heart of our town.
A Major Funding Boost
We’re thrilled to announce that following our call out for additional funding at the Spring Update event, we’ve secured an additional £1.23million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This critical injection of funds will ensure the completion of key areas, including the shops, reception space, courtyard, community room, and the holiday lets above No. 2. It’s a significant step forward, and we’re incredibly grateful for the continued support we receive as we progress the project.
Visible Progress on Site
If you’ve passed through the marketplace recently, you’ll have noticed a BIG change – the scaffolding at the front of the building is now down, giving everyone a first glimpse of the transformation, and the high standard that the contractors involved are working towards. The shopfronts at No. 2 and No. 3 have now been delivered and installed, with glazing at No. 2 expected imminently. Upstairs, major improvements have also been made. Rendering and replacement window installation on the upper floors of No. 2 Market Place are now complete too, a milestone which has contributed to the building’s refreshed and historically sympathetic appearance.
Stabilisation and Safety at the Granary
Thanks to the new funding, we’re now also able to ensure that the Granary building is weatherproof and safe while we continue to seek further investment to complete its restoration. It’s a crucial step in preserving this part of Caistor’s heritage.
More Support on the Horizon?
We’ve recently submitted an Expression of Interest to Historic England for a share of the Heritage at Risk fund. If successful, we’ll move to the next stage of the application by mid-May 2025 – so watch this space for updates.
Community Share Offer – Round Two
With the project progressing and change now being able to be seen and believed, we are thankful for the growing support from the community. In light of this, we’re preparing to launch a second Community Share Offer. This will give more local people the opportunity to invest in the future of the Market Place and play a part in its ongoing story. We’ll be announcing full details in late May or early June, so keep an eye out for that too.
Construction Progress: Steel and Structural Work
Behind the scenes, a huge amount of work has been completed. The old shopfronts have been removed, necessary demolition works have taken place, and asbestos has been safely cleared. The poor condition of the original shopfronts meant additional steelwork was required to maintain the structural integrity of the buildings. This work is now complete, and all steel supports have been successfully installed.

With key parts of the project now nearing completion and more support in the pipeline, the transformation of 2-4 Caistor Market Place is gathering real momentum.
